Miss Laura’s Visitor Center, housed in a historic bordello, is an iconic landmark in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Built in 1896, the building originally served as a luxurious house of ill repute during the city’s rough-and-tumble days as a frontier town. It was operated by Laura Ziegler, who became a well-known figure in the area, and the building was one of the most opulent in the “row” of similar establishments along Fort Smith’s notorious waterfront.
In 1963, the building was saved from demolition and later restored to its former glory. Today, it serves as Fort Smith’s official visitor center, offering a unique blend of history and hospitality. The interior retains much of its original charm, with period furnishings and decor that transport visitors back to the late 19th century. Miss Laura’s Visitor Center not only provides tourists with information about local attractions but also gives them a fascinating glimpse into the city’s colorful past.
